Did they skip teaching reading a tape measure in school?

I had 3 interviews with potential employees yesterday. The ad clearly stated, you must be able to take accurate measurements with a tape measure.
First question I asked them, I handed them a tape measure and asked them to measure the door behind them (33-11/16) all three got it wrong.
2 said 33 -1/2, third said a little over 33 inches. I asked him how much over, he started counting the little dashes. "33 and ten sixteenths" I said, could you convert that to the lowest common denominator? Nope.

Where to get accurate tape measure?

Or maybe someone can tell me how to use the two I have. The hook at
the end of the tape on both of mine (and every new one I picked up at
Lowes) has about a 1/16th inch of play. In other words, measuring a
board would be 1/16th longer than measuring the hole the board fits
into.
I have just recently got into woodworking and am building some built-in
bookshelves and facing in the shelves has been a pain due to this
1/16th. I doubt I've made a flush cut yet on the first try (not to

How long does your tape measure last?

Hey guys I was wondering how long do your tapes last and what brand do you like? It seems like I cant get a tape to last very long the tip always gains a 1\16" or so pretty quick.

Too many times now i've driven to collect bits for my golf's and they've been completely wrong
Today i drove to Luton (bad enough at the best of times) to collect some 312mm brakes for the mk4. Now one of the defining characteristics of a 312mm brake disc is that it's 312mm in diameter, not 288

Tape measure alignment?

Now that I can venture out on the road, I discovered my 'they both look straight' alignment following the replacement of tie rods was a failure. Very scary once I hit 30mph.
So a driveway alignment is in order. Any suggestions beyond jacking it up, measure from tire to tire in the center front and rear then get them the same (or slightly toed in?).
