Relationship Maps: Your Story or Their Story?

I've had fun drawing players into relationship maps during a Buffy mini-series and a pick-up game of The Pool. But now I'm thinking about running Sorceror for the first time, there's this question bugging me:
Most of the r-maps I've assembled have a Bang inherent to them. An example from the Art-Deco thread is the disappearance of the plane carrying the sorcerous drugs in Session 1.

I just hate when people go around and critisize the author's story. Just seeing those kind of comments in my story or others story makes me angry. Really...I don't know but I'm not that kind of person who critisize people's story. Even if it's a bad or good story. I don't leave stupid comments. Author's can do whatever they want in their story. I'm sorry...I'm just in a bad mood this morning and I woke up late and didn't go to school.

So I was playing through the game and I've always wondered, wouldn't this be epic with a story in it?
Now I've been through the developer commentary and they say that they didn't want long cutscenes becuase people wanted to get into the game.
So why not a seperate story mode?
I mean why not try and make an epic story like the Half Life series? Give us some emotional attachment to the characters, create levels that have objectives and you find out information like Half Life etc. but just make it...
