Are journalism students completely screwed?   Asked on: 10 Dec 2008
Given the never ending stream of bad news coming from print media companies, what is the realistic job outlook for a college student who will be graduating with an undergrad print journalism degree in the next 1-2 years? In other words, am I completely screwed? I'll be graduating in the fall of 2010, with no plans for grad school. Assuming I want a career as a writer/reporter in journalism proper (mainstream newspaper, magazine or online) and not in a related field like marketing or PR, and assu...

Need help with all things Journalism?   Asked on: 03 Jan 2006
Need help with all things Journalism?   There have been quite a few people asking for advice and help on journalism recently, whether it be university courses, post-grad courses, work experience, or how to go about getting a job. Rather than have people's questions dropping off the page before anyone turned up to answer them, I'll put a mini-pile of info and advice here for all to see, and feel free to ask me if there's anything I haven't covered. Firstly, why I'm able to offer advice (just so y...

Blogs as the burning truth of journalism?   Asked on: 20 Feb 2005
Interesting article on bloggs as journalism at the BBC. Not revelatory by any means but interesting. How do you see these journalistic/political blogs and their role? It seems from the evidance of a few issues at the least they certainly provide some good service in uncovering truths. How much though compared to rumour /scare mungering? Overall a good or bad thing? I reckon it's probably good, except that. I wonder when people take them as more credible sources or treat them like the common mans...

Journalism for Christians?   Asked on: 10 Nov 2008
I'm doing my internship with a national newspaper in Melbourne, and I am having issues with journalism ethics, it seems they will make up stuff to make a story sell if that means lie or slander a person than so be it. I can't stand this.. what are your thoughts on journalism ethics? is there a place for Christians in the journalism world?

QUALITY JOURNALISM?   Asked on: 05 Dec 2005
http://www.helsinginsanomat.fi/english/ ... 1981791773 "If you live in a stone-age culture in a jungle, eat what nature provides, and do not care about the rest of the world, you have a good chance of having optimal blood pressure." Is this acceptable or is it an example of negative stereotyping?

How much do you trust videogame media/journalism?   Asked on: 30 Nov 2007
What I'm referring to are sites or publications that deliver news, reviews, previews and features. I read a conspiracy story today that suggests a journalist had been sacked in relation to giving an anticipated game a bad review and the game publishers threatening to pull all their advertising from the site. It's not necessary to go into specifics because it's unlikely they'll ever be proved to be anything other than conspiracy theories but that it sounds plausible is cause for concern. After so...
