Im Stuck With The 555 Timer?

Hi all, firstly i'd like to thank you all for all the help i've found on this site, i was attempting to make a circuit where the output activated continously on and off very fast, i googled ways to do this and was directed to

who was stuck in a similar sitation, after reading the posts i managed to grasp (i think) the parts of the 555 timer, i attempted to make a circuit, but it didn't work as expected...well i didn't expect it to work...
