Asked on: 23 Jul 2008
This question is in regards to Shavlik Netchk6.1
How is the "machine owner" email address determined? I don't want to add all of our user's email address into Shavlik's address book.

How is attraction both determined and psychological?
Asked on: 03 Dec 2007
I see a lot of theories on attraction floating around, most have to do with evolutionary psychology. An example of one might be, "Women prefer males who earn high incomes because they are genetically wired to seek a provider. Men who could provide for females allowed for the successful survival of the children."
I think the theory above doesn't take into account Ayn Rand's view of the emotions; that they're derived from previous value judgements. However, can the evolutionary psychologists theor...

Is there a genetically determined limit to athletic performance?
Asked on: 23 May 2006
In his autobiographical book The Naturalist, E. O. Wilson suggests that there is a genetically determined limit to an individual's athletic performance which cannot be overcome regardless of the amount of training. Using himself as an example, he describes how he became a serious runner several years after graduating college. The gap between his times and those of the top runners in his age group (expressed as a percentage) remained what it was in college.
I looked at my current times (three yea...

Group shared experience gain: Is it determined by character levels or ship...
Asked on: 26 Feb 2008
For example, say I am a level 30. My friend is level 8. We are sinking ships together. Using historical MMORPG reasoning, we would believe that my level 8 friend is getting much less experience because I'm such a higher level. Fair. After all, in "most" MMORPGs, character level is a prime factor in determing a character's power.
But. This game doesn't theoretically work that way.
This game isn't quite determined by "character level", but rather by "ship level". For example, a level 50 character...

Is the effectiveness of tactics Determined by the situation?
Asked on: 28 Oct 2006
Is the effectiveness of tactics Determined by the situation? I have been doing some reading on WW2 that would definately point to yes, but I was wondering what you lot think or if you have any similar examples:
At the begining, envelopment manuvering was carried over from WW1. This had been advantageous because of the potential to surround the enenmy and bring all your forces to bare at once. Its disadvantage is that it is more likely to create weakpoints as because your forces are so spread out...

How is scaling determined?
Asked on: 02 Nov 2008
People say that scaling reflects the quality of the students. But how do they determine the "quality" of the students in the first place?
I would really appreciate if someone could come up with an explanation and some sources to back it up.

How is latency determined?
Asked on: 05 Nov 2008
Is it the combination of CPU / RAM / Audio Card, or does it have more to do with just the Audio Card itself? As such, will using the same card in two different machines, one much faster than the other yield all that much better results?
What determines the number of samples you use to how much latency is put out in return? Is the Audio Card always going to be a set amount or is it affected by the power of the system it's being used on?
I've got a Toneport GX, at 128 samples I get 12ms latency, o...

Truth - What is its meaning and how is it determined?
Asked on: 29 Apr 2007
Hello everyone, I'm new to this board, so I really don't know that much about it. Nevertheless, I would like to discuss the topic of truth, what it means and how one determines it.
I believe that truth is what conforms to reality, and that the Christian God of the Bible is the one who is the ultimate source of truth; that He has revealed truth not only in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ, but also via His book, the Bible, which is further illumined to the minds and heart of men by God's Spiri...
