Suggestions for debate - What are some suggestions for debate?

Suggestion 1. Focus on ideas and not people.
Too many people debate the person and not the idea. That is, too many people are focusing on 'crushing' their opponent rather than learning about the ideas being presented. Such behavior is childish. It stems from one's need to assert perceived superiority over the other, or embellish one's ego. So, I suggest people focus on the ideas. If the individual becomes too frustrating to interact with, walk away.

Note: "OPN" is short for opinion. You don't have to use it, but I did.
Performance
My OPN: Linux offers the best performance. There are a wide variety of window managers out there (such as XFCE) that offer much better performance (yes, while taking away from some of the eye candy) than say Ae...

3. Dr. Judy Woods theory: The collapse events were man-made p...

Is technical debate killing debate?
Asked on: 23 Nov 2007
This is starting to kill me. I know that if any of my friends or teachers watched me do a policy round, they'd think that I was crazy. Debate has shifted from a public friendly competitive sport to an event that few understand. It seems like policy debate is more about out spreading your opponents and winning on the smallest technicality (topicality) rather than on learning and debating the substantial issues of the round. Right now I'm wondering if I should spread at my next tournament, but the...
