Dance the first dance with someone who can dance?

Anecdotally, I've discovered that if you turn up at a new dance place and dance the first dance badly (usually because you've danced with someone who isn't necessarily au fait with the dance), nobody will dance with you.
On the other hand, if you dance the first dance at a new place well, you're never short of dances for the rest of the evening.
Is this something other girls have found?
Similarly, do the guys in the thread always "watch" a girl dance before they approach them for a dance? Obviou...

Did you have dance lessons for your bridal dance?

FH and I are not great dancers, but we can move to a beat. We're dancing to 'Everything'by Michael Buble http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=SPUJIbXN0WY . Did you have dance lessons before? We not want anything choreographed, just want to know how to sorta sway and look like we have a bit of an idea what we're doing!!
If you had dance lessons, can anyone recomment someone on the Northern beaches? I've had a look at some professional dance studio's on the web, and they're quite expensive..

Dance Dance Revolution Anyone?

I was wondering if anybody here has tried or plays DDR (known as Dance Dance Revolution). I play it from time to time, and no I don't play at the arcades or anything cause those hurt my feet after a while..lol. I have two of the mats, but not the smaller kind, I have like the metal kind that are big and bulky-ish..lol. So do you play DDR? What is a good dance for first dance?
Beside swaying from side to side what it a good dance to do? It doesn't have to contain alot of footwork because I will be wearing a long dress but FH & I would like to do something a bit cool Not anything like the robot of the thriller dance, we have to dance together.
