Do you think technical excellence is essential for making good music? By technical excellence I mean instrumental skill/production skill.
I reckon the importance in most styes of music is highly debatable, though dnb I think is arguably more important. What do you think?

Catchy Technical Bands?
Asked on: 04 Nov 2008
Anyone know of any bands that have really catchy vocals, but are also pretty technical?
Such as:
SikTh
The Fall of Troy
Protest the Hero
The Arusha Accord
The Mars Volta
Or any band with awesome guitarwork. But preferably with catchy vocals.
If this is not in the right place, let me know
EDIT: Just to clarify, technical meaning crazy guitarwork and catchy like the bands i mentioned, or just stuff thats fun to sing a long to.
If not then bands with just awesome guitarwork will work for me like BT...

Is "Technical Support" the right terminology for these forums?
Asked on: 27 Aug 2001
Is "Technical Support" the right terminology for these forums? I'm really glad I posted my tech support issues (Streaming Noise, posted 8/23)... the response has been simply underwhelming. I kind of assumed that, like a typical technical support group, someone might actually RESPOND to the tech support issue that is posted. I was given heat for posting this problem in three forums, but I now realize that to get help I probably should have posted in ALL forums.
I understand ACER tech support is h...

Most Technical Fights?
Asked on: 02 Dec 2008
What are the most technical fights you've ever seen? They can be MMA, BJJ, Muay Thai, Boxing, whatever. I'm just bored and want to know some technical fights to watch.
Off the top of my head, in mma:
Saku vs Newton
Wilson Reis vs Abel Cullum
Hazelett vs McRory
Torres vs Maeda
Nate Diaz vs Josh Neer
Urijah Faber vs Chance Farrar
Shinya Aoki vs Joachim Hansen 1
I will add more as I think of them.

Technical skills for managing a telephony network?

Technical skills for managing a telephony network?
If someone asked me the minimum technical skills (not knowledge) necessary to manage a large IP network, I would say "Cisco CLI, and some experience with SNMP". Oh, and maybe the ability to configure a Radius server.
Is there a similar base skill set for telephony? Any vendor who's UI has become so ingrained that everything else is basically just a variant? What's the 70% solution for telephony management?

Prog and Technical Rock/Metal?
Asked on: 13 May 2006
I've always seen prog rock and technical rock as being almost interchangeable. Is there really a difference between the two? I know both emphasize musical talent and instrumental skills. But on the other hand, Porcupine Tree doesn't really strike me as being all that technical. Nor do Tool and Radiohead. So now I'm totally confused.
